The Community Development Department works with residents, businesses, developers, and other private and public entities to promote a safe, desirable, and economically viable environment for the citizens and businesses of Cloquet.

The services provided by the Community Development Department are categorized into three general areas:

Building & Housing Code Administration

The Building Official reviews building plans and permit applications, issues building permits, and conducts a wide range of field inspections to ensure compliance with State and local building, property maintenance, and zoning codes.

Economic Development

The Community Development Director serves as the point of contact and staff support for the Cloquet Economic Development Authority.

Planning & Zoning Administration

The City Planner serves as the point of contact and staff support for the Cloquet Planning Commission and oversees the City’s implementation of the City’s Comprehensive Plan and specific zoning and subdivision ordinances that make up the Comprehensive Plan.
