About Cloquet's 1% Sales Tax
If an item is subject to the 6.875 percent sales tax, it is also subject to the one percent (1%) local option sales tax. Retailers report tax collections directly to the Minnesota Department of Revenue at the same time you report your Minnesota sales tax, but the figures are reported separately.
Exclusion
Excluded from the 1% sales tax are motorized vehicles. Motorized vehicles are subject to a tax of up to $20.00. Dealers remit vehicle excise tax to the City of Cloquet using the Motor Vehicle Excise Tax Report.

Notification of Local Use Tax
The City of Cloquet has a 1% sales and use tax. Local use tax applies when you buy items or services for business or personal use in the local area when paying local sales tax to the seller. Residents and businesses are required to remit the local use tax to the State of Minnesota regardless of where or how the item was purchased. For example, if you buy a taxable item for your business or home from an out-of-state seller who does not charge or collect local sales tax.
The City of Cloquet sales and use tax is reported to the Minnesota Department of Revenue at the same time you report your Minnesota use tax, but the figures are reported separately.
