Report a Crime

If you have an emergency, if someone has been injured, or if a crime is still in progress, DIAL 911 immediately. DO NOT USE THIS FORM.

If you are the victim of a crime that does not involve an emergency as defined above, and that occurred within the Cloquet or Scanlon city limits, you can complete the Crime Reporting Form and submit your report via email at records@cloquetmn.gov or via fax (218)879-1190. A Police Officer will NOT be dispatched to your location.

Your phone number and a valid email address are required to file a report on-line. Some types of incidents may be reported to Cloquet PD by telephone. Please contact the Cloquet Police Department via the Carlton County Dispatch non-emergency number, (218)384-4185, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Permit to Purchase / Transfer

Under Minnesota law, handgun transfers involve any sale, gift, loan, assignment, or other delivery to another person. If you possess a valid Minnesota permit to carry a handgun, that permit constitutes a permit to purchase. You don't need to apply for a separate permit to purchase.

Options for Obtaining a Permit to Purchase/Transfer

Option 1
If you live within the city of Cloquet:

Fill out the Minnesota Uniform Firearm Application/Receipt Permit to Purchase/Transfer. The Cloquet Police Department will conduct a series of background-related checks to assure you meet eligibility requirements established in state law. **NOTE** Your MN Driver's License, MN Identification card, or U.S. Passport must contain your current address to process your application.

Once those checks are complete, a one-year permit to purchase a handgun in Minnesota will be issued. If you are applying for a permit to transfer, the Cloquet Police Department will notify you of its status within seven days of receipt.

Option 2
If you want to make a one-time purchase of a handgun from a dealer and you do not have a permit to purchase, you may apply directly at the gun shop where you will purchase the handgun. The gun shop will require you to complete a consent form that allows them to conduct a name and date-of-birth background check to determine your eligibility to purchase a gun. However, some businesses may choose to follow other business practices. The gun shops are entitled to charge a fee for this service.

Overview

The Cloquet Police Department provides outstanding law enforcement services to the citizens and visitors of Cloquet. These services are also provided to the City of Scanlon along with portions of the Fond du Lac Reservation.

The Police Department has an authorized strength of twenty-four sworn officers and has a total of twenty-six full-time dedicated employees who are available to provide professional community oriented police services 24 hours a day.

Residence Security Check

Please notify the Cloquet Police Dept. if you are going to be away from your home for the weekend, week, month or season. The Police Dept. will check your residence while you are away in order to curb break-ins and burglaries.

Deer Hunt - Archery Season

Deer Hunt-Archery Season is September 19th to December 31st. A permit administered by the Cloquet Police Department is required. Please complete the required Archery Deer Hunting Application to receive your permit.

Cloquet Police Connects with the Community - Nixle
